OK, be honest and brutal.
Here is the original shot I took of an old net on the beach near ocean Shores Washington.
And here is the same photo after messing around with it a bit.
So, whatya think?? I think it is a definate improvement. I liked the original, but after messing around the original now looks terrible to me. :)

Excellent. You nailed it. You brought out the detail in the sand and sky. I really like it. Need I say more...
Now that you know what you are doing you will no longer print or do any photos without a run through a photo editor. Sometimes it is just a little improvement, other times it makes a world of difference.

I am in the process of messing up most of my old photos now :)
While this may sound a bit pompus, there are some of my photos that I actually think are 100% perfect as shot and no amount of editing will help, however most can benefit from some small amount of doctoring.
thanks for the input.
George

Here's another thing that is amazing to me, the editing was done with a combo of Kodak easyshare and GIMP. The Easyshare actually does an excellent job of certain touch up jobs that don't require the use of the most intense processes allowed by GIMP!

Yep, I will sometimes jump pictures between different programs because one does something better than the other. Just make sure you work in a high quality format, and not jpeg if you are going to do that.

I think it looks good George. You really pulled out the detail in the netting. I like the way you cropped it too, less sky and sand makes the net stand out better.
